A local authority serving the West Midlands, England, has awarded Applexus, the dedicated SAP consultancy, the contract for its SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud implementation. The landmark partnership marks the first SAP Public Cloud implementation within a UK local authority.

Applexus won the contract following an internal ERP evaluation in the council in April 2023. With the impending contract renewal for its finance system by the end of 2024, the council sought a new ERP solution through a tender process. After selecting SAP as its preferred ERP provider, the tender process was extended to its partner network. This led to Applexus UK's success with a tailored package outlining a seamless cloud migration strategy.

The upcoming implementation, which is scheduled to go live in December 2024, encompasses SAP SuccessFactors, SAP SuccessFactors Payroll, and SAP Analytics Cloud. To this end, the council plans to integrate these products from the SAP suite and leverage SAP’s continuous innovation. Accordingly, they aim to make data-driven decisions that will result in cost savings across the organisation.

This means the local authority will be more efficient with a single version of the truth. This will deliver accurate, up-to-date information, cloud-based ERP solutions, automation, and streamlined processes. Coupled with intuitive analytics, the council can forecast and plan for economic changes.

However, local authorities throughout the UK are facing growing pressures to accelerate their digital transformation programmes. Budgetary demands are making it imperative to explore the power of technology to automate processes, improve efficiency, and enable effective service delivery during endemic skills shortages.

The benefits of digital transformation are clear for this purpose. Cloud-based ERP systems like SAP S/4HANA are incredibly functionally rich and intuitive. Furthermore, a local authority can fully leverage the system from day one due to its inbuilt supporting tools.

Don Valentine, Vice President of Sales and Client Services, Applexus, commented, “Applexus knows the public sector industry, and we are very excited about the potential of this SAP S/4HANA implementation. Our services will ultimately enable the council to cut costs, improve efficiencies, and streamline its current processes. As a trusted advisor, we operate as an extension of our client’s businesses, and our dedicated team is committed to providing high-quality support".

“The contract for the Council is the first public cloud implementation into a local authority in the UK, a significant win for SAP and Applexus alike. We’re thrilled to support the council’s digital transformation, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds”.
