Global Automotive Manufacturer Unifies Enterprise Pricing Across Regions
Overview
The client is a leading global automotive manufacturer with operations spanning Europe, North America, and the wider international region. As a large enterprise running pricing across multiple regions and a complex downstream technology landscape, the organisation needed to modernise the way it set and governed prices.
For more than a decade the business had relied on a legacy on-premise pricing system. Over time, that platform had become a recurring financial and operational burden, with major upgrade cycles, low user adoption, and heavy reliance on spreadsheets for day-to-day pricing. The organisation set out to move to a modern cloud pricing platform that could serve as a single, governed foundation across all regions.
Key Challenges
Managing pricing across multiple global regions on legacy tooling had created significant complexity. The organisation needed structure, transparency, and scalability across every region and product category.
- High upgrade burden — The legacy on-premise system required lengthy, resource-intensive upgrade cycles, each effectively a new implementation and a recurring cost to the business.
- Low adoption, heavy spreadsheet dependency — The legacy platform was used largely as a transport layer to move pricing data, while the actual pricing work happened in spreadsheets outside the system.
- Fragmented, region-specific pricing — Only one region used the legacy pricing engine to a meaningful extent; other regions priced almost entirely outside the system, so no unified pricing process existed.
- Single-category price lists — Price list creation was restricted to one product category at a time, forcing significant manual duplication during every quarterly price action.
- Complex enterprise integration — A landscape of 100+ downstream systems fed via centralised middleware, operating across multiple regional time zones on a near 24/7 basis.
- Stringent compliance and access-control requirements — As a large enterprise, the client required strict regulatory compliance, robust data validation, role-based access controls, and full auditability.

Engagement
Implementation across three regions, followed by an ongoing support and maintenance partnership
Solution
An implementation partner worked with the client to deploy a modern cloud pricing platform as the governed foundation for pricing — designing the solution around how the client actually prices and operates across its regions.
The engagement spanned three regions. Requirement-gathering and design workshops were run with regional teams, followed by a phased build and go-live: the first region went live in early 2025, with the remaining regions following within the next few months.
Solution Components
- Central Pricing Engine — The cloud platform was implemented as the primary pricing environment and single system of record across all regions, replacing the legacy tool.
- Multi-Category Price Lists — The platform enabled pricing of multiple product categories within a single price list for the first time, removing the single-category restriction and eliminating large amounts of manual duplication in quarterly price actions.
- Custom Modules — Bespoke modules were built for pricing strategy definition, segmentation modelling, product hierarchy management, and custom forms. These frameworks have since been reused as standard toolkit assets for other clients.
- Governance & Configurable Workflows — Governance frameworks with configurable parameters and approval workflows were implemented, enabling business administrators to make operational pricing changes independently, without developer involvement.
- Enterprise-Grade Compliance & Access Controls — Strengthened data security, validation, role-based access controls, and auditability were delivered to meet the client's strict enterprise compliance requirements.
- 30+ Dashboards & Reports — A broad set of dashboards and reports was delivered, including competitor intelligence, cost monitoring, a consolidated part-information view, and approval-workflow performance tracking.
- Multi-Instance Architecture — Separate regional instances were deployed for each region, plus a dedicated global instance consolidating data across regions for cross-regional price-index comparison and analysis.
Integration Architecture
Rather than connecting directly to each of the 100+ downstream systems, the platform was integrated through the client's existing centralised middleware:
• Inbound — Master and product data is collected from multiple internal systems through a centralised middleware layer and onboarded into the pricing platform, so pricing always works from current, accurate data.
• Outbound — Approved pricing is published back to a centralised distribution layer, which in turn feeds the 100+ downstream systems across all regions.
To support the very large data volumes involved, significant performance tuning and infrastructure work was carried out so the platform could reliably handle the client's scale.
Major Benefits Realised
- Dramatically faster approvals — A 70–80% reduction in approval cycle times following the move to the new platform and streamlined workflows.
- Reduced manual effort — Multi-category price lists and process improvements removed substantial redundant, repetitive work from every quarterly price action.
- Standardisation across regions — Pricing was standardised across previously fragmented regional processes, all within a single governed platform.
- Reduced developer dependency — Configurable parameters now let business administrators manage operational pricing changes themselves, instead of routing every change through developers.
- Actionable pricing insight — New competitor and cost-monitoring dashboards gave teams visibility they previously lacked, surfacing pricing opportunities and cost changes that require action.
- Scalable, governed foundation — The platform now operates as the definitive system of record for pricing across the client's global operation, with full auditability and role-based access.
- Ongoing partnership — The relationship has continued into a support and maintenance partnership, with the client building up its own internal capability and further pricing initiatives under discussion.
